EDGE vs altFINS vs Token Metrics: Which Crypto Analysis Tool Fits Your Trading?

altFINS helps you find coins, Token Metrics helps you rate them, and EDGE helps you understand the one in front of you. Here is what each tool does, what its AI adds, and which trader it suits.

In one paragraph
  • altFINS — find candidates: a screener with AI chart patterns across about 2,200 coins.
  • Token Metrics — rate candidates: machine-learning grades and research across thousands of tokens.
  • EDGE — understand the pair you trade: four timeframes, levels, flow and macro computed by algorithms and explained by AI in one brief.

altFINS, Token Metrics and EDGE are often compared because all three are crypto-focused and use AI, but they sit at different stages of a trader's process. altFINS is built to discover opportunities across a very large coin universe. Token Metrics is built to rate and select tokens. EDGE is built to analyze a specific pair in depth — what each timeframe says, which levels matter, how macro fits in — and explain it in plain English.

What does each tool do?

altFINS: a screener with AI pattern detection

altFINS provides 150+ analytics and 130+ trading signals across about 2,200 coins, plus a chart-pattern engine that detects 27 patterns on 15-minute, 1-hour, 4-hour and daily intervals. Its analysts publish technical analysis and trade setups for the top 50+ coins, and an AI Copilot answers questions within a daily prompt limit. It also includes on-chain metrics and portfolio tracking.

Token Metrics: AI ratings and research

Token Metrics evaluates thousands of crypto projects with machine-learning models that combine fundamentals, code quality, sentiment and technical data. Results are expressed as Trader and Investor Grades, with AI signals, model portfolios (indices) and an AI chatbot for research questions.

EDGE: computed analysis of a pair, explained

EDGE computes the technical picture of a crypto pair on 5M, 1H, 4H and 1D in parallel: EMA 20/50/200, RSI, ADX, MACD, market structure, volume profile (POC, VAH, VAL), previous day, week and month highs and lows, CVD flow, OBV and RSI divergences, Ichimoku and ATR. It flags conflicts between timeframes, ranks key levels by the timeframes that confirm them, and adds DXY, VIX, the S&P 500, the 10-year yield and the day's economic calendar. An AI layer then writes one brief: daily to 5-minute, a synthesis, day and week scenarios with triggers, and the main risk. A scanner covers the top 50 USDT pairs.

How does the AI differ?

In altFINS, AI mainly does pattern recognition: finding triangles, flags, wedges and channels across thousands of charts faster than a person could. In Token Metrics, machine learning produces scores and signals from a mix of fundamental and market data.

In EDGE, the calculations are done by deterministic algorithms, and the AI's job is synthesis and explanation. It receives the complete computed data set for four timeframes plus macro, and has to weigh it: where the timeframes agree, which conflict wins and why, which levels carry the most confirmation, and what would invalidate the view. The result is not a score or a buy/sell flag but reasoning you can read and check.

Where altFINS and Token Metrics are stronger

  • Breadth. altFINS scans about 2,200 coins and Token Metrics rates thousands; EDGE concentrates on liquid major pairs.
  • Discovery. If you are looking for new candidates among small caps, a screener or a rating system is the better first step.
  • Long-term research. Token Metrics' fundamental and technology grades target investors with longer horizons.
  • Pattern libraries. altFINS' 27-pattern engine is built specifically for classic chart patterns.

Where EDGE is stronger

  • Depth on the pair you trade. All four timeframes, structure, volume profile, flow and divergences are computed together rather than as separate screener results.
  • Conflicts explained. When the daily trend and the 1-hour tape disagree, the brief says so and explains which matters for which horizon.
  • Macro and calendar in the analysis. Crypto's first-hour range after FOMC, CPI and jobs-report releases is about 2–2.7 times normal, according to our research on which macro events move crypto. EDGE names the day's scheduled releases in the brief.
  • Scenarios, not signals. Day and week scenarios with upside and downside triggers help you plan for both directions instead of following a single call.
  • Exchange data. Prices and flow straight from Bybit (spot and perpetuals), Binance and major decentralized exchanges.

How the three fit into one process

Most active crypto traders go through three stages, whether they name them or not:

  1. Discovery. Which coins are worth attention right now? Screeners such as altFINS are built for this, scanning thousands of charts for patterns and conditions.
  2. Selection. Which of those deserve capital, given fundamentals, sentiment and risk? Ratings platforms such as Token Metrics address this.
  3. Analysis and planning. For the pair I am about to trade, what do the timeframes say, where are the levels, what is the macro backdrop, and what are the scenarios? This is the job EDGE is built for.

Problems arise when a tool built for one stage is used for another. A screener hit is not an analysis, and a grade is not a plan. Before entering a trade it still helps to know whether the daily trend supports the 1-hour setup, where the nearest confirmed resistance sits, and whether a CPI release is due in two hours.

Questions to ask before choosing

  • Do I need more ideas, or better decisions on the ideas I have? More ideas point to a screener; better decisions point to deeper analysis.
  • What is my horizon? Long-term token selection favors ratings; swing and intraday trading favor multi-timeframe technicals and macro timing.
  • How do I want AI to help? Finding patterns, scoring tokens and explaining a complete analysis are three different uses of AI.
  • Do I want signals? If you prefer to keep the decision yourself and see the reasoning behind every level, EDGE's no-signals approach is designed for that.

Which one should you choose?

  • You want to find new coins to trade: start with altFINS.
  • You want ratings for long-term token selection: Token Metrics.
  • You trade BTC, ETH, SOL and other major pairs and want to understand the setup in front of you: EDGE.

The tools also combine well: a screener or ratings platform to build a shortlist, and EDGE to read each shortlisted pair across timeframes and macro before deciding. EDGE's Free plan includes 10 Analysis runs a day, enough to test this workflow on your own watchlist.

EDGE computes the technical picture from exchange data across 5M, 1H, 4H and 1D, adds macro context and the day's economic calendar, then AI assembles every signal into one plain-English brief with levels and scenarios.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between altFINS and Token Metrics?

altFINS is a crypto screener: it scans about 2,200 coins with 150+ analytics, 130+ signals and AI chart-pattern detection. Token Metrics is a research and ratings platform that grades thousands of tokens with machine-learning models for traders and investors.

Is EDGE an alternative to altFINS?

For traders who already know which pairs they trade and want a deeper read of each one, yes. altFINS is strongest at scanning a very large universe; EDGE computes the full technical picture of a pair on four timeframes with macro context and explains it in a plain-English brief. EDGE also has a scanner over the top 50 USDT pairs.

Is EDGE an alternative to Token Metrics?

They serve different horizons. Token Metrics focuses on rating and selecting tokens, often for longer-term investing. EDGE focuses on the current technical and macro state of a pair for swing and intraday trading.

How much do altFINS and Token Metrics cost?

At the time of writing (October 2026), altFINS has a free Starter plan and paid plans at $20, $40 and $60 a month. Token Metrics has a free Basic tier, Advanced at $39.99 a month and Premium at $199.99 a month.

Do any of these tools give guaranteed signals?

No tool can guarantee results. altFINS publishes analyst trade setups and Token Metrics publishes AI signals and grades; EDGE deliberately gives no signals, only computed analysis, levels and scenarios, with the decision left to the trader.
